Training can transfer knowledge. Capability is what an organisation can do with it.
This assessment has three parts. First, check whether the problem is really a capability gap, or a process, resource or contextual problem that training will not fix. Then rate the five conditions that help learning become organisational capability. Finally, plan the intervention using the sequence Need → Audience → Capability → Format → Application → Measurement.
Consider five conditions
- Relevant knowledge and clear expectations
- Opportunities to practise in context
- Access to support and feedback
- Ways to share and retain knowledge
- Leadership reinforcement and measurement
Rate each condition, identify the weakest link and choose one practical improvement to test.
